A mother told a devastating story of her daughter walking into her room in the middle of the night with a gunshot wound.
Khia Shields died in her sleep around 1 a.m. as a result of a shooting.
The young girl was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
This occurred in Georgia and sadly ended the life of a 19-year-old girl.
Her mother, Shereka Pitts said, “I’m up, looking… she’s looking at me, I’m looking at her.”
“She had her hands held out like, ‘Mommy, Mommy, I’m shot,’” the mother added.
Just last week, Khia celebrated her birthday by turning 19.
A memorial was also set up at the local Walmart, where she was an employee.
“Just put the guns down,” said Pitts. “I’m going to keep her name alive. I’m gonna keep speaking on her until we can come up with a solution to stop gun violence.”
In Georgia, there has unbelievably been more than 90 kids that have been shot and resulted in death. Shields is among them.
Authorities do not know who fired the shot.
Additionally, police say they do not know if Shields was an intended target of the shooting.
The area has seen a significant spike of gang activity in recent months.
